sick again

I've been suffering for a couple of weeks with a respiratory illness: sore throat, coughing, occasional fevers, achiness..

I need more than another Month of Health; I need to throw a Decade of Health or something. I'm so tired of being sick. I'm starting to weigh ideas which I'd normally scoff at, like taking up Chinese herbs (there are some which supposedly boost the immune system), switching to eating raw foods (think of the enzymes!), cutting back on drinking (which I'm doing automatically anyhow as a result of being sick). Any suggestions will be entertained, so long as they do not involved meat or kombucha (gotta draw the line somewhere).

I don't have sinus problems, and I am phobic about those traditional Indian healing things! I have congestion in my lungs right now, headaches, and occasional low grade fevers, plus general, flulike achiness and weakness.

I'd also be happy to sign up for an afternoon of watching the girls if you want to take a long nap, or listen to some quiet.

Umm... after I start getting better from being sick, I always throw out my old toothbrush and get a new one so I'm not brushing old sick germs around my mouth. I also will Clorox Wipe things like doorknobs, fridge handles, lightswitches, stuff like that, in addition to counters and other surfaces. Lastly, as I start feeling better, I open the window, turn on the fan, and take a can of Lysol and heavily spray the entire house, literally spraying into a corner, and then I leave the Lysol on the floor near the front door and walk out for several hours.

Being married to a Chinese herbalist, I can say that it is worth checking out the Chinese herbs. A few years ago we were getting flus really regularly and started having some Chinese herbs each morning that helped with the immune system. We've barely been sick since then.

Which herbs do you take, Steve? I am ready to take them up.

We take two things which are great for the immune system for most people. It is probably still a good idea to get a consultatation to be sure they are right for you.
The first item is American ginseng. The second is a mixture of some mushrooms including astragalus root, reishi and maitake.
We take both of these as liquids and they are from a company called K'an Herb Company. K'an doesn't sell at the retail level, so if you wanted their stuff, you'd need to get it from an herbalist. However, the ingredients are probably available from any good herb place.

Not sure if I am the Steve to whom you are refering...

If you have kids, you're gonna get what everyone in the school has. Green has some solid points. I'd add, wash hands (yours and theirs) frequently. You could try a nasal rinse. It's a bit much at first, but gets easier.

To answer your question, Fish Oil and Glucosamine, neither of which will do anything for you now, but when you get older, OY!
