"children just want their parents to be happy"

I brought home a laminated street map of Barcelona, which I was very happy to find as soon the Sober Husband and I will be traveling there for our first child-free vacation since procreating nearly 13 years ago.  Little Lola spat at the map and said she was going to cut out the part which showed where our hotel was (so presumably we wouldn't be able to find our way to our reserved room).

Earlier in the day a child who shall remain unnamed picked a fight with me because I refused to go into detail about something I'd done.  "I don't have any secrets from your father, but I can from you," I noted.

The child's face settled into firm disapproval.  She spat out, "He thinks it's okay for you to do anything that makes you happy!"  Clearly I need a different authority to answer to, one less permissive than my spouse.  I should settle under the yoke of my child overlord.

"I should settle under the yoke of my child overlord." Too funny!

I love the title of this post! I hear this sentiment offered so often & I always laugh inside---children are generally pretty self-motivated.

(Not to say that they don't care at all about the happiness of their parents, but hopefully you know what I mean.)

Your trip sounds fantastic!! How long is your vacation?

My husband & I are spending just one night this weekend at a local hotel to belatedly celebrate our 10th Anniversary. It will be only the second night we've spent away from our 8-year-old kiddo.

A whole vacation sounds like a wonderful dream! Hope you & the Sober Husband have a great time.

ROFL ! I so can't stop chuckling at this !
I do hope your time away is lovely . secretly we parents do this so we can scheme up new ways to ruin our childrens lives isn't it . according to mine anyway that is the sole purpose of parenting is most often spending time finding ways to be mean by telling them things they should not do .
