Cupy's birthday

Five year old packrat Lucy treasures a used Slushee cup, "Cupy", to a disturbing and unhygienic extent. The Sober Husband and I didn't feel up to facing the wrath and angst that would follow from throwing Cupy out, but he did move Cupy down to the garage as an interim step.

The same day he put Cupy in the garage, Lucy had the good fortune of finding a Snapple bottle, which she brought home carefully. "It's Cupy's birthday! And I have the BEST present for him!"

Of course Cupy had to be brought back into the house and presented with his present, "Bottly." "Now Cupy has a brother!"

Cupy and Bottly reside in the dining room at present. I only hope their family won't grow further.

Perhaps Lucy has some sort of weird separation anxiety. An unnatural fear of abandonment. Might wanna look into it.

Or it could just be random five-year-old silliness. She's such a cutey.

Oh, and how would she react if you suggested giving Cupy the occasional bath??

We have bathed Cupy, but Cupy is one of those disposable, pressed paper with wax coating cups which can't go through the dishwasher. I suspect germs lurk in Cupy's seams. I could put some bleach-water solution in Cupy, I suppose.

However, Lucy hasn't been drinking out of Cupy lately, so it's okay. I think I'll push her not to use Cupy for drinking.

Bottly is more hygienic, thankfully.

Honestly, these posts about Cupy and Bottly could be about either of my daughters. They develop attachments to the oddest things. We still have a dead june bug in on a bed of kleenex in a paper cup in the garage because they couldn't bear to let "Juney" go. Of course, they didn't find the bug until it was already dead, and had they come across it while it was alive, there would have been much shrieking in terror.

"We have bathed Cupy"...

it's funny how we're all talking about Cupy and Bottly now like they're actual humans.

Lucy has won.

I am completely riveted. Please give us more of the Adventures of Cupy and Bottly. What would I do without your blog?

Cupy will fall apart if she drinks out of it anyway.

I wonder if there's some kind of acrylic substance that Cupy could be coated with. To, yanno, give him enough backbone to go through the washer.
