the importance of having good standards

Over burritos tonight I made some mention of maintaining my high standards, and nine year-old Iris uber Alles interjected passionately, "It's very important to have low standards! And then you won't be disappointed! If there's one thing I've learned in all my years, it's to have really low standards!"

"In all those long years?" I asked ironically.

"Yes," said Iris uber Alles with complete seriousness. "I have learned to have really low standards!"

I was watching "The Kite Runner" on a couple of days ago.

There's a pretty violent, yet key, scene in the movie. In the middle of this scene my son said, "This movie is inappropriate for me."

I don't know where they get these phrases from, but they surprise me.

I told him the movie wasn't inappropriate, but this part may be.

Actually, I significantly increased my own happiness when I lowered my standards, particularly for huge sections of my life like work.
