Lola makes her candy taste even sweeter

The other day Lola got a bag of various Chinese New Year-themed treats at kindergarten. In the car, she asked me, "Can I have my candy I got?"

"Sure," I said.

Lola said happily to herself, "I have two pieces of candy. I'll eat one now... and then I'll show one to Iris and eat it in front of her!"

Lola is going to earn herself some eighth grade hatred here.

I check out your blog randomly-Lola is the female counterpart to my 9yo. The world would be in serious trouble if they ever meet.

and if she had a third one? she could suck it for a moment then spit it out in front of the DH as a show of his impertinent work ethic.

Hey, at least she's learning early that living well is the best revenge!

Schadenfreude. It's not just for German philosophers anymore.

Sorry Jim, but since Hershey's bought out Sharfenbergers and another boutique chocolatier and then shut them both down, you can't get schadenfreude anymore no matter how philosophical you get.

Just 'another chocolate boutiquier'??? You're referring to Joseph Schmidt, the best chocolate maker ever, who had a factory within walking distance of my house. Every Christmas I sent my relatives beautiful handmade boxes of his chocolates. Iris and I met Mr. Schmidt once, and he was so charming.

It's a huge loss to the Castro and to San Francisco as a whole, Hershey's closing Joseph Schmidt. I was honestly upset when I heard.

I was having a senior moment, sorry. How was their schadenfreude?

We're all in a state of mourning here over the closure of Joseph Schmidt. Oh, sorrow, sorrow.
